Customizing Dolls

Customizing dolls is a way to change the dolls look, by re-painting the faces into alternate or new characters,  re-rooting new hair, making them a new fashion and also many other things that can be done with creativity to create a new custom doll.

To get into customizing, having bright ideas, creativity, time and patience are some of the most important ingredients needed. Starting with something simple and working your way into more techniques as you go is definitely a good way to start. And something I always recommend is that, even if you start a doll and think she is not going to turn out, just finish her anyway and then assess where you could improve. It’s not finishing a project that stops people from progressing and improving and convinces then that they are no good at it. Where if you finish the doll, then you will have completed the process from start to finish and you may surprise yourself that the end result is better than you imagined. Even learning from the process, you will have learnt some great techniques and figured out where to improve next time. Cos so many first custom dolls are just the beginning of what’s to come. :)

There is just so much you can do with doll customizing. Being able to take an original Jem doll, look at her closely and imagine turning her into an opposite character such as one of the Misfits and using creativity and ideas to make it happen. Even being able to use the simple customizing techniques to make just the slightest change to a doll can really add new glamour to them and make it so each doll in your collection is unique. Plus it is a great way to fix up dolls that have issues such as a bad hair cut or worn face paint and turning them into a doll that you will truly appreciate.

Another craft that is associated to customizing is repairing dolls. The ways this can be done is by swapping doll’s parts so that you can turn two bad dolls into one good doll. Another way is by repairing splits on dolls with glue and even re-rooting a few new strands of hair or touching up worn face paint can work wonders on that doll that you thought was not so good to start with.

The customizing information here is what I have gained through personal experience and many of these techniques I have figured out myself. So this is a great guide for lots of techniques, tips and photographed tutorials to learn customizing techniques and take your dolls beyond your wildest imagination.
