Jem dolls came out in stores in 1986 and 1987. The line included the main characters as well as some of their friends. There was a total of 27 different dolls released. Many of the dolls were issued with instruments and cassette tapes of Jem songs from the cartoon that you could play along while playing with the Jem dolls.

Something that made Jem dolls so unique was there amazing glitzy outfits and their bright colored fantasy hair colors such as pink, purple, flouro lime and blue.

The dolls are 12 inches high which is slightly larger than other fashion dolls at the time and they had moving, clickable knees and elbows, movable waistline, wrists and head, so you could pose these dolls in action.

There was three different releases of the Jem/ Jerrica doll which had an outfit for Jem and for Jerrica, all having flashing earrings too. Also there was one doll of just Jem which had hoop earrings and just the one outfit for Jem.

For the Holograms, there were two issues of these dolls where the second year line got new outfits. For the Misfits, these also had two releases, yet their outfits stayed pretty much the same, just a few minor changes such as shoe color and some with slight variations, yet they got updated instruments.

For the friends of Jem, there was only one male doll released: Rio, and had two releases issued, and then there was a release of other friends: Danse, Clash, Video and Synergy. Plus the Starlight girls who are smaller in size to match their age: Banee, Ashley and Krissie.

A side note for two dolls, Clash and Jetta, Clash was originally going to be the fourth Misfit and the doll’s packaging included Clash as a Misfit and Jetta didn’t make it for the packaging photo, as she was chosen to be the fourth Misfit in the last stages. So I have included Clash in the Misfits section for 1987.
