The Hasbro line of Jem includes the dolls, fashions to dress them in, play sets to play with the dolls on, wrist rocks for kids to wear and mail in offers. The line was released in 1986 and 1987.
With collecting the Hasbro line, variations of the same products can be found. Some of the doll’s facial screening will differ, so that you get two variations of the same character, some of the fashion items will come in different fabrics, meaning the same fashion can come in lace or sheer tights and various other differences. Some are common differences, some are rare and some are still being discovered and identified from fans today, plus different items also made it to different countries. So there is a lot of variations when it comes to the Hasbro Jem line and it can depend on your experience of collecting, as to what items you come across. This makes the Jem collecting experience different for every collector.
The collection pictured on this site is from Jemgirl’s own personal collection. I have collected most of my items from the USA, UK, Netherlands, France and Australia, and come across interesting variations and possible prototype items while doing so. Jem collecting is not easy to do as there are so many little pieces to collect and many items are very rare or hard to get in decent condition all these years later. In order to have completed this collection, I have reproduced a small amount of items, such as replacing poor condition items, by searching for the same fabrics to match the original and repaired some pieces to bring them back to decent condition. Plus I dress up some items as they looked in the catalogues and posters rather than how the fashion was released. And as there are a lot more fashions than there are dolls, I have dressed many fashions in customized dolls and ones from a line called ‘Darci’ from 1978 and Rob from Maxie of 1988, cos I really love to add more characters to dress up in the fashions.
