Super Stars are dolls that was issued after the Jem line had ended. The dolls were used from left over Jem dolls and packaged in plastic baggie packaging with a cardboard attachment stating ‘Super Stars’. These dolls were sold in discount stores. Not only did the Super Stars dolls consist of Jem dolls, yet they also included other types of dolls such as Maxie and various other hollow plastic cheapy doll bodies.
Some Jem dolls in the Super Stars packaging came almost as a regular Jem doll, dressed in Jem clothing, not particularly their original clothing, but never came with shoes or accessories such as bracelets. The dolls issued were only ever of the very first release Jem dolls consisting of the ball wrists only. The Jem dolls issued, only come in the dolls of: Aja, Shana, Kimber, Pizzazz, Stormer and Roxy. Plus Rio was issued on cheapy plastic bodies and strangely enough on the female Jem doll bodies.
Some other types of dolls did come on Jem doll bodies and often a doll would come with two right hands or something strange like that, as did some Jem dolls in this packaging. With some of the African American Shana dolls, these would also come on a caucasian body. The hollow body dolls did often come with plastic shoes such as boots.
Super Stars can come in many different variations and some can be a real one off. There is also thought that some of these dolls were used in pre production as prototypes and ideas of what may have been in a new Jem line.
The following collection of Super Stars dolls comes from Cleothunderwith’s collection.
